On Feburary 18, 2022, JCI Surigao Nickel together with PGMC delivered and distributed Relief Kits for 190 families in Brgy. Danawan, Surigao City.
Brgy. Danawan is an island barangay that is not easily and readily accessible. Island barangays are at risk of being left behind because of their location and peculiar circumstance. But despite their situation, the community is resilient and it is evident in their smiles upon our arrival. The smiles and laughter on the faces of the children cannot dampen or hide the destruction in the island. A boy playing with a toy chain saw made out of wood caught our attention. There is joy to be found in the simplest of things. The community is recovering, and so are their hopes and aspirations.
The Relief Kits consisted of 5kls. Rice, Food Packs, and 6L Bottled Water.
The journey towards the island was a bit rough with waves crashing in, causing the members to get a bit wet. There was even no infrastructure for pump boats to dock in the island, and the team had to wade in the sea water towards the beach. But it is all worth it to deliver these packs for the community.
We wish the community the best in their path to recovery, and may the Lord guide them in all their undertakings.
