Project Details

Treek (Trek and Tree) Planting: From Walking Boots to Growing Fruits is a meaningful initiative by JCI Surigao Nickel that champions food security and sustainability in the climate-vulnerable City of Surigao. With a project value of ₱51,250, the activity brought together 279 participants for a 30-minute eco-hike and successfully planted 400 trees—comprising 325 fruit-bearing and 75 hardwood species—at Cagniog Forest Park.

In partnership with LGU Surigao City, Surigao CiENRO, and various civic organizations, the event blended environmental action with community education, emphasizing the role of native fruit trees in building resilient, local food systems. Despite the project’s scope, only ₱10,076 in cash was utilized—reflecting efficient and impactful resource use.

Treek directly supports several UN SDGs, including Zero Hunger (Goal 2), Climate Action (Goal 13), Sustainable Cities and Communities (Goal 11), and Life on Land (Goal 15)—serving as a scalable model for grassroots action that nourishes both people and the planet.
