Project Details

MaluPet QR is an innovative program initiative by JCI Surigao Nickel that utilizes QR code technology to
provide traceable, accessible, and humane solutions for pet identification. It empowers communities to

prevent pet loss, streamline rescue operations, and support veterinary coordination through a mobile-
accessible digital registry.

Launched in 2023 and upgraded in 2024 with support from DOST, the project transitioned from paper tags to
durable acrylic QR codes. In 2025, MaluPet QR scaled rapidly through strategic deployments in the
Municipality of Sison (serving all barangays), the Dinagat Islands, and during Mayor Paul Dumlao’s People’s
Day Caravan in Surigao City. It was powered by youth-led partners: JJC Surigao Ironwood and Batang
Surigaonon Youth.

Since its inception in 2023, the program has registered a total of 6,499 pets and 1,587 owners. This growth
reflects the power of digital tools, grassroots partnerships, and youth-driven leadership in building scalable
animal welfare systems replicable across communities.
