Oplan Kaagapay in Municipality of Sison

JCI Surigao Nickel and JCI Surigao Wensie delivered and distributed 620 relief packs to three different areas in the Municipality of Sison, Surigao del Norte – Barangay Upper Patag, Barangay Lower Patag, and Sitio Maitom – on December 27, 2021.

It was a cold stormy day. With such a downpour coupled with strong winds, it was a sudden flashback of the recent typhoon. Everywhere, you can see the destruction. With heavy rains, what would those people without roofs do? They, and their properties would be soaked again. Much more, what would people who lost their homes and are sheltering on make shift tents do? These are the scenes we saw that gloomy morning.

In Barangay Upper and Lower Patag, respectively, residents lined up to receive the relief packs. Notably, in Upper Patag, their community shelter was damaged heavily by the typhoon leaving them exposed to the rain when they lined up to received the relief packs. The worst hit of the three was Sitio Maitom. The residents was temporarily sheltering on the side of the road, uphill from the sitio in one make shift tent made of Trapal. But they were all grateful and happy from the simple help they received. They reminded us that despite all the adversities we have faced, there are still reasons to smile and be grateful.

The Municipality of Sison was hard hit by the typhoon and these three areas are not easily accessible and near the highway. As hard as it may get, with our limited means and manpower, we will strive to reach more areas that need help. Together, let is rebuild our lives better and stronger.
