Til now, more than 3 weeks after Super Typhoon Odette (Rai) ravaged our community many still have no roofs over their heads. With the unpredictable weather, they have no peace of mind and shelter when the elements come. Leaving them exposed to the rain and scorching heat, the hope of a speedy recovery fades by the day.

JCI Surigao Nickel would like to ask everyone to send your used tarps to be recycled and sewn together to be maJCI Surigao Nickel would like to ask everyone to send your used tarps to be recycled and sewn together to be made as TENTporary roof and shelter by our brothers and sisters still exposed to the elements and have no roofs over their heads. With these TENTporary roofs, we give them shelter from the cold rain and scorching sun. Not only that, we give them temporary respite and hope that we will recover - slowly but surely, day by day - stronger together.

We start the recovery by securing safe TENTporary shelters for our affected and displaced brothers and sisters through this TENTporary project.

To help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, JCI aims to make human settlements inclusive, resilient, and environmentally safe.

Help give TENTporary shelters to those in need. Please send or drop off your used tarps to:

We will accept all tarp sizes but we suggest that the ideal sizes are 8x8ft, 20x20ft, or bigger.

We will be the one to sew together the tarps and distribute them to communities in need. Let us, hand in hand, give respite from the elements and bring the hope of recovery to our brothers and sisters.

JCI Surigao Nickel would like to acknowledge and express our gratitude to our partners and donors who made Oplan Kaagapay – Bangon Surigao possible. These people rose up to the call of help and assistance in times of dire need and devastation in our community.

We would like to report to our partners, donors, and the community the funds and the goods we received, and the communities that were reached by your generosity and assistance. Because of our joint and relentless efforts, together, we were able to reach 3,384 beneficiaries as of January 1, 2022. We are also able to reach 12 different affected areas and distribute the family relief packs equitably to families and persons in need.

It is also worth mentioning that without the silent and dedicated soldiers on the ground – the selfless members – implementing and executing these operations would be difficult. We thank them for their dedicated service.

Thank you also to our JCI brothers and sisters - JCI Cagayan de Oro, Inc., JCI Kagayhaan Gold, JCI Bai Lawanen, JCI Surigao Wensie, and JCI Macajalar 24K plus JCI Mandaue, JCI Mandaluyong, JCI NAGA Cariñosa, JCI Quezon City Capitol, JCI Senate Surigao and JCI Sto. JCI Surigao Nickel and JCI Surigao Wensie delivered and distributed 620 relief packs to three different areas in the Municipality of Sison, Surigao del Norte - Barangay Upper Patag, Barangay Lower Patag, and Sitio Maitom - on December 27, 2021.

It was a cold stormy day. With such a downpour coupled with strong winds, it was a sudden flashback of the recent typhoon. Everywhere, you can see the destruction. With heavy rains, what would those people without roofs do? They, and their properties would be soaked again. Much more, what would people who lost their homes and are sheltering on make shift tents do? These are the scenes we saw that gloomy morning.

In Barangay Upper and Lower Patag, respectively, residents lined up to receive the relief packs. Notably, in Upper Patag, their community shelter was damaged heavily by the typhoon leaving them exposed to the rain when they lined up to received the relief packs. The worst hit of the three was Sitio Maitom. The residents was temporarily sheltering on the side of the road, uphill from the sitio in one make shift tent made of Trapal. But they were all grateful and happy from the simple help they received. They reminded us that despite all the adversities we have faced, there are still reasons to smile and be grateful.

The Municipality of Sison was hard hit by the typhoon and these three areas are not easily accessible and near the highway. As hard as it may get, with our limited means and manpower, we will strive to reach more areas that need help. Together, let is rebuild our lives better and stronger.

JCI Surigao Nickel and JCI Surigao Wensie conducted relief operations in Brgy. Banbanon, Muncipality of San Francisco, Surigao del Norte on December 26, 2021 for families affected by Super Typhoon Odette (Rai).

JCI gave out relief packs to 381 families. Damage was mostly on homes and houses made of light materials. Their sources of livelihood was also damaged with fields flattened and trees felled. The packs consisted of 6L and 10L bottle of drinking water, a loaf of bread, rice, biscuits, canned goods, noodles, milk, and coffee. This came from various donors.

Your donations have come a long way in giving a quick respite from the burden of losing a home and surviving a super typhoon. When we came to the locality, the trail of destruction was everywhere. Despite losing roofs over their heads, and some, their whole homes, you can see the gratefulness in their eyes, this was coupled with the resiliency and drive to overcome the situation.

Together, we can help each other build back our lives better. A typhoon may bring us to our knees, but by reaching out our hands to those in need, we help them stand up better and stronger. That flicker of hope gives them the strength to build up their homes and lives for the next day.

Last December 26, 2021, JCI Surigao Nickel and JCI Surigao Wensie, together with Northern Mindanao Local Organizations namely - JCI Cagayan de Oro, Inc.., JCI Kagayhaan Gold, JCI Bai Lawanen, and JCI Macajalar 24K - plus JCI Mandaue delivered relief goods to Brgy. Aurora in Surigao City for families affected by Super Typhoon Odette (Rai). Brgy. Aurora is an island barangay of Surigao City, it is remote and not easily accessible. It is much nearer to the Island Province of Dinagat than Surigao City proper.

At the time of our visit, there was yet any relief operations and goods received by the residents and the LGU. We were one of the first to be on the scene to give them aid. This is already more than a week from Day Zero. You can imagine the spark and tears in their eyes when they saw us. How many days did they endure the elements without shelter? Without a secured and safe source of water and food?

We cannot describe what we saw - the disaster, the relief, and joy - into words. We were swept by emotion in empathy with the plight of our brothers and sisters. We thought we were the worst hit in the mainland and the city proper, but we were wrong. We bring the plight of our brethren to your attention.

JCI gave out 280 packs of relief goods for the families of Barangay Aurora. This included 10L of bottled water, rice, noodles, biscuits, coffee, milk, and canned goods for each family. These packs came from generous donors. Medicines were also handed out to the barangay, courtesy of JCI Ralph Reyes of JCI Mandaue.

It is with gratitude that the solidarity of Northern Mindanao Chapters is materialized and reinforced with their visit. OneNorthMin is in full force with 2022 Area Vice-President for Area V Jason Mediante Alcudia , 2022 Regional Vice-President for Northern Mindanao Jett Yaranon, 2021 Regional Vice-President for Northern Mindanao Deo Anthony Mediante Alcudia, and 2020 Regional Vice-President for Northern Mindanao Chestine Chua sparing their time and joining us for the visit.
